Take Action

Everything we do to conserve our environment has an impact. Think about it; all the little things, such as walking or biking somewhere instead of taking the bus or driving, make a difference.

The most important is to keep educating yourself about what is good and to act. It is possible to change our behavior. We can’t wait until we have to change because of regulations or laws; we have to change now…we can change now…and we can ask our leader to change too.

Write to your MP to ask him/her to take action on climate change now. Just copy our format letter to your email, add your name and send it.

Here are a few eco-tips, we have gathered for you.

1.Vote with dollars. What this means is if you want to see more organic food being produced as opposed to processed, over manufactured food, then buy organic (that is if you can't grow it yourself.)

2. Buy recycled toilet paper. If everyone in Canada replaced one roll of virgin toilet paper a year with recycled toilet paper over 42,000 trees could be saved.Reduce purchases of over packaged or disposable items.

3. Avoid products that are packaged for single use. Instead, buy in bulk and transfer the products to your own reusable containers.

4. Reuse more of what you already have.

5. Use a reusable coffee cup to reduce the landfill.

6. Recycle - Statistics shows that a recycled aluminum beer, pop or juice can has the ability to produce enough energy to run a laptop computer for four hours. Don’t idle your vehicle’s engine. If you stop for more than 10 seconds, except in traffic, turn off your engine.

7. Purchase more energy-efficient appliances, such as new refrigerators.

8. Walk, bike, or take public transit instead of your vehicle.

9. Drive smaller more fuel-efficient vehicles.

10. Reduce your driving speed 5 km/hr.

11. Check your car tires once a month to see if they are fully inflated. Properly inflating tires improves mileage. Poorly inflated tires are known to waste more than two million gallons of gas per day.

12. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs; they could save you $68 annually.

13. Heat/cool buildings more moderately.

14. Wash your clothes in cold water.

15. Purchase renewable energy to offset you contribution to global warming by purchasing wind power for your computer with Pembina Institure or buying Carbon-Offset from NativeEnergy.
